Using a bespoke arts programme we have developed the ArtSpeak programme with the aim of addressing some of the issues that can affect an ageing population of a city. Our goals have been to help improve the social well-being of older people and make our over 60's more visible and active in society.

Our belief is that cultural engagement at any age underpins emotional stability and benefits health and wellbeing.

The ArtSpeak programme will cover the following strands of activity:

ArtSpeak Create – hands on workshops ie. Painting, drawing, upcycling, craft.

ArtSpeak Participate – Dance group, theatre group, photography workshops

ArtSpeak Live – Just Jamming Music sessions

ArtSpeak Meets – gallery walkthroughs, workshops in cultural venues, and group visits to other cultural venues, cities and places.

ArtSpeak is an arts strand of Radford Care Group. Established in 1968 Radford Care Group was a place for older people in the area to come together to socialise, make friends and engage in a variety of activities. It is very much the same today with four distinct service areas: The Care Group, offering respite care, a Friendship Group that meet on a daily basis to socialise and enjoy a programme of games, and arts and crafts activities.  A Carers Forum, offering information, support and advice for people caring for a loved one who is living with dementia.

The fourth is ArtSpeak, a peripatetic arts programme made possible by Big Lottery Funding and underpinned by the same principals of friendship and socialisation for people to access in their local area. Using the arts as a tool to generate social capacity, new groups will be established in a range of community settings as a way to help people get out, get active and enjoy a fulfilled life.
